What is the Engineering Build Space (EBS)?
Located in the School of Engineering, the Engineering Build Space was setup to enhance the department's undergraduate engineering courses, allowing students to develop their design and making skills through practical application. The EBS is a vibrant and creative space where users can harness their creativity, explore their ideas, and bring their designs to life.
Spread across three unique spaces, the EBS houses everything from a discussion space, basic prototyping capability and hand tools through to cutting-edge computer-controlled manufacturing equipment and robotics. The facility is primarily a teaching facility for Engineering students, but also acts as a community maker space for all students and staff in the University, where they can work alongside each other, explore ideas and come up with solutions to important design problems. Users can explore and experiment with the basics of designing and manufacturing while working side-by-side with an experienced team of creative people.
To find out more about the Makers in Residence and Students Makers that work in the EBS, see our People page.
How can you use the space?
To be able to come and use the EBS, user first need to read and digitally sign agreement to our Core Rules and Risk Assessment documents on the EBS Access page.
On entry to the space, users are require to 'tap-in' to record the presence in the facility. Users are then free to make use of any of the tools and equipment available in the space that they have been trained to use. The Makers in Residence are able to provide training on all equipment as required.
